"Pace Yourself" in the hands of Sarah Palin

Yes. . .I sure did. I sent Gov. Palin a copy of my book. Though I can't imagine how much mail she gets, I sent it anyway. Why not? Other than the fact that she is a key conservative figure in today's political scene, past governor of Alaska and vice-presidential candidate, she seems "normal" enough to relate the "normal" stories found in the book.

I figured she or her girls might enjoy it. Like a dork, I even sent it with a tracking number so I could trace it's journey. How corny is that, right?  I wrote her a letter and signed the book with hopes that it would end up in her hands. It did. Though the note I received back from her is standard, the signature is real. How cool is that?

Haha. I love Palin but doubt she will reside in the big white house on Pennsylvania Ave. But...it would be cool to be bedside reading.

Nice idea Rebekah! I gave a copy of your book to another influential lady - my wife! And she is telling me how much she enjoys it a couple of times a week.
Any chance you will be at Holiday Lake 50K selling/signing your book?

Hey Chuck-
I may be there Friday night but my indoor track distance kids run in state champs on Sat. So, I think I'll likely miss being able to run the race. I will try to come out Friday, however, with some books.

Glad your wife is enjoying it. Even better that you consider her an influential lady. :)

Hi Chuck- I'll be there Friday night. But I won't be able to run or be there Sat. My indoor distance runners have state champs in Richmond that day. It wold be pretty tacky for their coach to not show.

Great, I will look forward to meeting you. Maybe I can bring my wife's copy of your book for you to sign. (I may have to scan a page so she has it to read Saturday morning!) And we have someone in mind to get another one for.
I also enjoyed reading about your jungle "adventure race".

"Last verse, same as the first." In same ways, yes. My last race was the same as my first: I started. I finished. But in many ways, there's no comparison. It took ten finishes and 666 miles  of the devilish Hellgate 100K race to figure it out. The brainchild of Dr. David Horton, the Hellgate 100k+ (actually 66.6 miles) always begins at one minute after midnight on the second Saturday of December. The race has garnered a near cult-following, many hopeful entrants turned away. Those rewarded a cherished spot must earn Horton's approval as a worthy candidate. It is he who judges an applicant's toughness and ability to cover the rocky, mountainous real estate between the start and finish lines. But even so, the chosen few are never guaranteed a finish. What they are promised is a night and a day of unpredictable weather, trail conditions, and a barrage of self-doubt somewhere along the forest path. Failure or transition? Or, maybe both?

Here's the abbreviated version. I started the YETI 100 miler, determined to live out the statement by a friend battling cancer: "Don't you want to know what happens if you don't give up?". I never found out what would happen because I gave up--quit--threw in the towel--at mile 64. Let's not sugar-coat it. I failed. Big time. I am not proud of it. Please don't tell me I'm still a winner for having started. Please don't tell me you don't even like to drive that far. Such platitudes are not helpful. Happy at mile 34 The race didn't start off badly. I felt comfortable running the first 13 miles of the slightly downhill old railroad grade of the Virginia Creeper Trail. The chilly air encouraged a consistent pace, crossing over multitudes of old railroad trestles spiffed up for recreation purposes.
